The Distance Between Us, Commune.1 Press Release, March 1, 2012

The Distance Between Us explores the notion of the uncanny as a contemplation on the ephemeral nature of human life and the moment of our death. Concerned with violent embodiment, thresholds and liminal spaces, the work on show explores the transformation of things from one state of being into another. Edwards is interested in the repetitive activity of human labour, and notions of time and place, which she explores by means of drawing, installation, video and photography.

Edwards crafts objects that illuminate their inherent transitory quality. Her fleeting installations investigate place through animating inanimate objects in a sequence; objects build in pace, first as if waking or lulled by a gentle tide, then systematically accelerating before residing back to their resting place.
Produced as a body of work for her recently completed Masters in Fine Art, The Distance Between Us, has emerged from a study into notions of place and being.
